Herbline Essentials Product Review - Stretch and Blemish Cream & Aloe vera and honey hydra-5 Gel10/12/2013 I have been handed some wonderful and very unique products to review from Herbline Essentials. Inspired by 50 years of plant and mineral research, their beauty products are Ayurvedic, natural, organic and cruelty free. All ingredients are sourced in the Himilayas, providing beauty and health benefits for the mind and body. Ayurveda is an ancient science relating to health and life based on man’s relationship with nature and naturally occurring elements. This is the first time I have tried ayurvedic natural beauty products and I am very impressed, once you try ayurveda you might become hooked too. Stretch and Blemish Cream If you suffer from blemishes, scars and stretch marks, then this should be the cream for you. The cream softens and lightens damaged scar tissue and helps to regenerate new skin. The first thing I noticed with this cream was the amazing scent. The combination of the herbs used in this product has created a beautifully warm, earthy and spicy natural fragrance. Once applied to my skin, it wasn't oily or heavy, which is good for oily/combination skin. My problem is acne scars and hormonal acne. After daily use of this cream, the redness from old scars was becoming visibly lighter. I also used this cream on some old stubborn scars from minor surgery and the cream relieved the itching and irritation I was experiencing almost instantly, helping the scars to heal. The next test was stretch marks, although my stretch marks were older and quite faded, I did feel as though they were being smoothed out and the skin around that area was feeling very soft. Would also be good to use as a preventative measure for stretch marks, especially during pregnancy. It's very hard to find a natural product which treats acne, scars and stretch marks all in one. As any acne sufferer knows, dealing with the red scars left behind can be a nightmare, but this may give you the help you need, without having to resort to dangerous chemicals. The ingredients listed here will give you an idea of the high quality herbs contained in this product and how the ingredients help to heal your skin. This is a product I will keep on using myself and I will recommend it to others. Sunflower Oil – Nourishes Papaya Enzymes - Supplies AHA Sugar Cane Fruit acid - Natural peel Vegetable Squalene – Lightens blemishes Brahmi (Centella) extract - Rejuvenates the cells Aloe vera and honey hydra-5 Gel Hydra-5 Gel is a special therapy gel for deep rehydration without the additional use of any oils and waxes. Good for normal/oily skin, the gel can also be used for after shaving, sunburn or any time you need a cooling deep hydration to your skin. It contains a natural spf 11 and will protect skin from pollution, dirt and dryness. The aloe vera detoxifies and shields the skin and the healing qualities of honey provides nutrition for the skin, hydration and anti-aging benefits. This gel felt extremely soothing to my skin, I applied it to my face in the mornings for protection and in the evenings I applied it for the cooling and soothing feeling it gave me. It was very beneficial after a day at the beach or getting wind burnt. Aloe vera is one of my favourite ingredients in natural beauty products. Applying the gel after leaving it in the fridge will help you relax and cool your skin almost immediately. Made with two healing and pure ingredients for natural skin care, this is a good alternative for anyone who doesn't feel comfortable with using oils on their skin. Once you open the jar, you'll notice the scent is very light, the gel is an beautiful light aqua colour. You can use this every day and not feel weighed down by heavy creams. There's something I love about using a gel, the texture is so light, but nourishing at the same time. Solyvia is an organic roll-on line, made with high quality essential oils and herbs to soothe and heal physical and emotional ailments such as headaches, skin blemishes and stress relief. This handy little pack of 3 is a remedy kit you can take with you anywhere. Certified organic by Ecocert, completely natural and not tested on animals. You can purchase this kit via The French Organic Company. The City Box contains Head 'Ake, Skin tune and Take It Easy, I've managed to make good use of all 3. Very economical at only $28.00 for the pack or $10.95 separately. Head 'Ake contains a combination of Macadamia nut oil and Borage with Lavender, Chamomile, Wintergreen, Peppermint and Clove essential oils. I do get the occasional headache and it's usually in my temples, I applied this oil, trying not to expect too much, as some of my headaches are hard to budge, but it really did help. The formula they use in this is very soothing, I placed the bottle in the fridge, so when I applied it with the roll on, it was such a nice cooling feeling. If you do get heachaches, espcecially tension, before popping a pain killer, you should give this a go. Can also be used to help with motion sickness (sea, car or plane travel). Skin Tune - I applied this morning and night when I had a pimple, mine are usually hormonal, not only did it help to clear the pimple, but it made the skin heal alot more quickly. It reduces redness, which is really important, especially when you're getting ready in the mornings and you're trying to cover up imperfections in a hurry! A combination of Muscat Rose with Tea Tree, Juniper, Lavender and Rosemary essential oils. This can also be used for rosacea and other skin irritations. Take It Easy - I applied this before bed to relax my mind. The scent is earthy and relaxing, l like it, it's not the usual flowery type of smell, it contains St.Johns Wort and Black Cumin Oil with Marjoram, Chamomile , Mandarin and Ylang Ylang essential oils. For a restful sleep I applied this under the arches of my feet and on my wrists. The big difference between this and other aromatherapy treatments are the herbs, specifically the St. Johns Wort which can calm down a busy and stressed mind. Rumex Advanced Lightening Day Creme La Mav's velvety day creme works to reduce discolouration and pigmentation. Formulated with Licorice root, Rumex Occidentalis and Marine Extracts to deliver intensive lightening and brightening benefits. Rumex is a plant extract which inhibits the formation of tyrosinase, an enzyme responsible for the reddish-brown pigmentation of the human skin. Licorice root also has a similar effect and contains anti-inflammatory properties. I like cremes which feel like they are doing a great job on my skin without feeling heavy, this is very light and fresh. I have oily skin, so this creme worked very well for me, giving it the right amount of moisture. I think it would also work well with dry skin as it contains jojoba oil and vitamin E. Vitamin C is another ingredient which has strong anti-aging action. Applying this in the morning gave me a nice little pick me up, it's very good for tired and stressed skin. I have been using this for one month and and I can say that my complexion has lightened out and the red marks are fading. This would be extremely beneficial for acne scarring and age spots. I feel as though it has taken the ruddiness out of my complexion and made my skin feel dewey and younger, which is always a good thing! It comes in a handy pump bottle which dispenses evenly. The natural licorice scent is beautiful, almost good enough to eat. Anti Dark-Circle and Ultra Anti -Firm Eye Gel A cooling gel to revive and lighten the delicate eye area. Formulated with Hyaluronic acid and Vitamin C to reduce the appearance of puffiness and dark circles. I don't think there is a woman on earth who hasn't had a problem with dark circles or puffiness at some stage. Applying this gel is very soothing, it firms and tightens my skin. Puffiness is my main problem, especially in the mornings and this reduces puffiness significantly. I have mild dark circles and this also seemed to lighten the area, I can see with further use the ingredients used will really help to keep the dark circles at bay. This also comes in a pump bottle, the gel seems to squirt out rather quickly, but that's ok, as you only need one pump and the right amount gets absorbed into the skin quite nicely. It leaves the delicate under eye skin feeling smooth, with no sticky or heavy residue. The gel has a mild natural sweet orange scent, reminds of getting a facial in an organic beauty salon, very nice and refreshing. http://chikii.com.au/product/la-mav-anti-dark-circle-ultra-firm-eye-gel/?affiliates=e4da3b7fbbce2345d7772b0674a318d5">Chikii</a> Organic Skin Brightening Products by Annette Christy/Chikii Enjoy our article using organic skin care to battle hyper pigmentation, and to tone and brighten the skin. Having an even skin tone and getting rid of dark spots caused by sun damage, aging and acne scars is a goal worth achieving. When you are young your skin is smooth and has a uniform texture, age spots are the first signs that we are not as young as we once were. They usually appear first on the back of our hands and on our faces – which are the areas that are most exposed to the sun and are obvious signs of aging. It is important to be very wary of skin bleaching or lightening products. They contain particularly nasty chemicals such as hydroquinone, which is believed to be a carcinogen and is banned in many countries. Instead of hiding behind concealers and makeup, people are seeking to remove these all too obvious signs of aging and getting rid of the problem naturally with ingredients that are gentle and safe to use and are free of harmful bleaches. Brown age spots or hyper pigmentations are caused by an increased production of melanin, a dark pigment excreted by cells called melanocytes in the skin to protect its deeper layers. If you have spent time in the sun in your younger years, it is a fair chance that you will have developed age spots which are areas of hyper-pigmentation where excess melanin has formed. Brown age spots usually develop over years of sun exposure; they are an indication of how much sun exposure you’ve had. We also recommend that you have your skin checked on a regular basis, as some age spots can look like skin cancers, or if you notice a spot on your skin changing colour or shape please see your doctor. To prevent the appearance of hyper pigmentations, you need to start early in life and use a safe sun block such as non-toxic zinc oxide. Apply it daily on your face, chest, back of hands and anywhere else you are exposed and pretty much use it for the rest of your life. Wearing a high quality mineral make-up also gives good sun protection as it provides a physical barrier from the sun’s rays.To prevent new age spots forming, minimize your sun exposure, cover up and wear a hat and sunglasses. The benefits of using natural organic ingredients to promote lighter and evenly toned skin is that they are totally safe and cost effective, and are very effective in lightening the skin without leaving any side effects, especially for those with sensitive skin and allergies. Below are a few ingredients and products that we have at our Chikii store to look for when purchasing an Organic Brightening beauty product that can help to clarify and restore, battle hyper-pigmentation, help in reducing melanin synthesis and sun damage. Bearberry Extract – An ingredient that is perfect for those who want to treat freckles and age spots, is has powerful lightening effects. Chlorophyll – A brilliant source of Vitamin K used in cosmetics to fade uneven, blotchy skin tones & discolouration. Licorice Root- The ingredient responsible for giving licorice its skin lightening effects is Glabradin. Glabradin prevents hyper pigmentation by inhibiting tyrosinase. Tyrosinase is an enzyme responsible for the chemical production of melanin. If you stop it from activating, you can prevent further discolouration Studies have shown that the ingredient’s gentle, non-toxic nature is ideal for providing a brightening effect safely. Licorice extract is also known to have anti-inflammatory properties. Lactic Acid- Lactic acid works similarly to Glycolic acid but is typically better suited for people with sensitive skin. Lactic acid removes dead skin cells to reveal new healthy cells underneath. As a result, the dry flaky skin disappears and skin becomes smoother, fairer and brighter with a youthful glow. Lactic acid in buttermilk is said to help fade age spots, so try rubbing some on to the spots each day. You should exfoliate your skin at least twice a week for removing dead skin cells which helps in boosting the skin cell turnover and metabolism process. Papaya – Papaya is one of the most important components of many skin brightening products and one can get incredible results, it is intended to be used long-term to gradually lighten the skin. The ingredient responsible for this purported effect is papain, a natural enzyme known promote skin and cell turnover with extra exfoliation. Papaya also contains vitamins A and C, the latter also known to help with lightening skin, and is considered a natural alpha hydroxy acid. Rose hip oil is famous for its properties that delay the aging process. It is very rich in antioxidants and vitamin C. Deficiency of antioxidants and vitamin C increases the skin’s aging process. This leads to age spots, hormonal hyper pigmentation, and uneven skin tone. Rumex Occidentalis Extract – This plant extract is capable of inhibiting the production of melanin and blocking melanin synthesis. Oryza sativa – Oryza sativa regulates melanin production and has been used in far eastern cultures for years to help brighten and lighten the complexion. Rice bran extract also contains lipoic acid, an antioxidant, and vitamin B5 (niacin) to help improve cellular circulation. The list is of natural ingredients are endless, below is some other natural remedies. Rub Aloe Vera gel onto the age spots twice a day. Honey and yoghurt is a natural skin bleach. Mix a teaspoon of natural yoghurt with a teaspoon of honey, rub it onto your age spots, let it dry and wash it off after 30 minutes. If you do this once a day, your age spots should start to lighten. Lemon juice – rubbing it in each day, the citric acid can help fade age spots. Use a brightening formula with Vitamin C.

I'll be reviewing ZAO make-up in this post, followed by the brands Acorelle and Solyvia in future posts. The following products can be purchased via the French Organic Company website and at selected stockists. ZAO PREMIUM ORGANIC CERTIFIED MAKE-UP What really stood out for me is is the eco-friendly bamboo refillable packaging used in the ZAO collection. ZAO have developed 100% natural formulas enriched with active organic ingredients. Long lasting with stunning colours. An innovative product presented in botanical material: bamboo. Refillable lipstick/Pearly Pink Moistuirzing and soft with a smooth texture. The pearly pink lipstick is a big hit with the women in my family, it's the perfect shade of pink for daytime work or evening wear. This is such a pretty shade of pink, not too bright and lightens up a dull complexion. Two of the ingredients which I think makes this lipstick feel so silky is pomergerante and cocoa butter. The cocoa butter helps with dry skin and pomegerante helps prevent fine lines, as it assists in the production of collagen. There are a myriad of oil and plant extracts to keep lips feeling hydrated and full of colour. For me the colour stayed on for quite a long time, only needing a couple of touch ups during the day. This lipstick also smells gorgeous, like an expensive lipstick, but without the chemicals and without the hefty price tag. Now for the bamboo packaging, I love it, it's classy and eco-friendly and comes in a cute little cotton pouch. The best part is that the packaging is refillable, making this very economical, as you can swap and change different colours. The lipsticks also come in matte shades. _
Refillable Pearly Eyeshadow/Pearly White
The pearly white is a great base to wear over the entire eyelid and to layer other colours on top. I don't have big eyes, so the shimmer in these shadows brings out my eyes. The powder applies smoothly, blends very easily and isn't over-powering or heavy. They come in many other colours to suit everyones tastes, from subtle and matte to pearly and bright. The shadow comes in refillable bamboo containers and also comes with it's own cotton pouch. These are some of the key ingredients in the eye-shadow, Bamboo stem powder - composed of silica and used in oriental medicine, necessary to replenish skin's elasticity, rice powder - elimiates fat from skin withough clogging pores and micronised silver powder - a natural preservative and anti-septic, keeping your product and skin safe from bacteria. I can't wait to try out the other colours in this range, I've been using this every day as a base to my eyeshadows.
Refillable Mineral Cooked Powder/Bronze Copper
Being as pale as I am, I love a good bronzer, but not one that will make me look orange. This powder is perfect for my skin, as it's light texture makes it easy to apply and the colour gives me a summery light tanned looked. I applied on the contours of my face and decollatage. Containing bamboo stem powder, siberian ginseng, micronised silver powder and silica. Not only does it make you look good, but it makes you feel good, knowing that you're treating your skin to nourishing organic ingredients. Made with real clay with a slight shimmer and cooked in an oven. A very natural looking powder which adds a nice sun-kissed glow. This also comes in the refillable bamboo packaging with cotton pouch, which I love. I have been given the wonderful opportunity to review some very high quality and affordable organic skin care from Twelve Beauty. Their serums have recently been featured in Harper's Baazar Beauty Hotlist 50. Twelve is a high performance skin care collection produced in Italy, which consists of six unique, innovative products suitable for stressed, sensitive and allergy-prone skin, designed to protect and restore skin as it ages. Personally developed by Pedro Catala, an independent cosmetologist and pharmacist with specialist expertise in botany and the science and technology of cosmetics. The entire Twelve collection contains only Eco-Approved ingredients and is completely free from parabens, sulphates, silicones, petrochemicals and glycols. All formulas are plant based and meet stringent requirements on green chemistry. They are also naturally scented with floral extracts and traces of essentials oils and use only natural emulsifiers. The twelve beauty name originates from the 12 high-grade ingredients incorporated into the range. Each product contains a selection of these ingredients, including White Genepi extract, Imperatoria leaf extract, Mallow Flower extract and Butterfly Bush leaf extract. Ideal Moisture Level Serum I am a big fan of Serums and I was delighted with the Ideal Moisture Level Serum. Designed for dry or mature skin, it has a very light texture which absorbs easily, locking moisture into fine lines and wrinkles. It creates a protective barrier against dry air and harsh weather conditions. I like the way it doesn't leave any oily residue, but at the same time intensely moisturises and protects, this seems to be an art which only a few can master. The serum comes in a glass bottle with a glass dropper applicator, which makes application even more enjoyable. I used the serum daily on face, neck and decollatage. Can be used on it's own or in combination with one of the mositurizers from the 12 range, especially the Complete Regeneration Night Cream. The scent is light, soft and pure. Complete Regeneration Night Cream This night cream is luxurious, silky and smooth. Apply this cream after you shower, before you go to sleep and you will wake up with soft and supple skin. It rejuvenates and restores as you sleep, contains an exclusive combination of ingredients which are rich in unsaturated fatty acids such as linoleic acid and phytosterols, these are essential in regenerating the epidermal barrier. This cream manages to deeply moisturise without feeling heavy, it melts into skin when applied. The scent of this cream is so light, you could almost say it's unscented, but there is a very slight hint of natural botanicals coming through. The Night Cream comes in a high quality thick glass jar. I love the twelve beauty range and how the products are designed for all types of skin, from hormonal skin prone to breakouts and mature skin needing a bit of help smoothing out those lines and wrinkles. I would highly recommend this range for anyone prone to allergies. The packaging for the product range is safe and eco-friendly. I prefer the glass packaging used in this range, over plastic for my beauty products. A very pure range of skin care designed with a great knowledge and background on botanicals. Twelve products can be purchased via the Twelve Beauty website, international shipping available. Over the past few weeks I've been trying out a product called La Mav Intense Moisture Nightly Repair Nectar. This was sent to me by Chikii and I have fallen in love with it. I've been using it on my decollatage, neck and face. As we grow older, the decollatage is the area we will notice aging first. The serum melts into my skin and I do feel as though it's making a difference to the way it feels and looks. My skin doesn't feel as dry, lines seem smoother and not as deep and the moisture from the Nectar keeps my skin feeling moisturised throughout the day. I've been on the look out for an organic product for the delicate decollatage and this is it. I've been using it nightly, you only need a little bit, so it is quite economical. The natural scents from the bio-actives and oils also make it smell wonderful. • Bisabol bio-active will calm and sooth your skin, reducing redness • Cucumber extract promotes hydration and improves your skin’s moisture barrier • Argan and Marula oil rehydrate and repair your skin • Provides natural anti-aging benefits • Bisabolol calms, soothes and reduces redness • Phytosterols in Cucumber Oil help strengthen skin’s moisture barrier • Linoleic acid & Oleic acid from Moroccan (Argan) oil and Marula oil help to re-energise and repair stressed skin restoring healthy glow • Natural Vitamin E and Tocotrienols from Sea Buckthorn Seed oil protect the skin delivering long lasting anti-aging benefits • Soothing abilities of Oat extract makes this pure nectar a savior for dehydrated skin If you would like to purchase serums from Chikii, head on through to their website. Following is an informative post by Chikii on the benefits of using serums. Organic Skin Treatment Serums Skin treatment serums are used as part of a facial treatment when you go to a Beauty Therapist or to a spa. A serum contains highly concentrated ingredients, delivering vital nutrients and vitamins to help rejuvenate and heal and to treat skin ailments. They absorb into the skin quickly and more deeply for a more intensive effect. Formulas vary, but most serums are designed to smooth, soften, reduce the appearance of dark spots, hydrate, brighten and help to combat sun damage. How to use a beauty Serum – Apply a drop of serum to your fingertips and massage it gently into your freshly- cleaned skin in the morning and at night, then follow with your usual moisturiser. You don’t need to use more than a drop or two to cover your whole face and neck. You will likely feel an immediate change in your skin the first time you use a serum – it may feel softer, smoother and perhaps a little tighter. But most formulas promise a visual change in four weeks, especially if you have fine lines and wrinkles, redness or large pores. Should I use a serum in addition to a moisturizer, or do they take the place of a moisturizer? Moisturizers act to protect your skin, where serums may be less protective, but more therapeutic. You can use a serum under your moisturizer for additional skin benefits. However a serum can be applied on its own at night, if you have oily skin (instead of a moisturizer); or during weather conditions when you want to forgo a heavy moisturizer. Can serums be used on my neck area? – This region often gets missed and is typically the first area of your body to show the signs of aging. Serums are perfect for delivering potent nutrients to the décolleté area. Follow with your moisturizer on your neck as well. How long does a serum last? – Many people apply too much – a little goes a long way. So a bottle should last longer than the same size daily moisturizer because you should be using less. We find serums generally last the longest of any product in a skin care routine because 1-2 pumps is all you need. If your skin feels sticky, you’ve used too much. At our Chikii store we have a couple of ranges that provide organic serum treatments. The potent synthesis 345 first love organic regenerative elixir has pomegranate, Agonis fragrans and passionfruit seed oil. Also look at the extensive beauty treatmentLa Mav serum product range, also with Vitamin C and skin brightening formulas. Bloom have released some lovely Australian Certified organic products, leaving out all of the nasty chemicals and only containing healthy ingredients for your skin. Gentle Organic Cleansing oil This is the first time I have used an oil cleanser to cleanse my face. At first I wasn't sure if i would be doing my skin a favour, as I already have naturally oily skin, but it was quite the opposite. The oil removed every tiny ounce of make-up and dirt, probably even better than other types of cleansers. Another advantage is the convenience and ease, just use a cotton ball and away you go. You can rinse off with water, but some nights I did leave it on my face without any ill effects. Organic sweet almond oil and jojoba oils soften the skin. Calendula and Camellia oil hydrate. Scented with sweet orange, lavender and tangerine essential oils, I loved the ease of using this in the evenings to remove my make-up. Organic Soothing Lip balm Another nice surprise from Bloom, an organic lip balm which is soft, not sticky and comes in an amber glass jar. Beeswax, shea butter and cocoa butter hydrate. It has a light orange scent and taste, as it is made with sweet orange essential oil. A lovely little balm, especially great for night time use before bed to keep lips hydrated. You can purchase Bloom products via their website and selected stockists.
I'd like to introduce you to a very handy iPhone and iPod touch app called BeautyCraft, a beauty product recipe book. If you love organic and natural beauty and DIY recipes, you'll love this app. Making your own products is a great way to save money, as well as ensuring that you aren't using dangerous chemicals. Full of skin care recipes such as bath bombs, facial scrubs, foot treatments and many more. The ingredients used are very affordable and easy to find, most of which you will probably already have in your own kitchen and nothing too bizarre, which will leave you wondering where on earth you're going to find them from. As well as a recipe book, BeautyCraft also contains a very detailed A-Z list of all of the ingredients and equipment used in the recipes, with explanations of what they do and how they work. Each ingredient listed contains very interesting facts - Did you know that apple cider vinegar has been used in beauty products since Roman Times? Or that coffee is thought to fight cellulite, and that honey and thyme have great antibacterial properties? Below is an example of the type of recipes contained in the app and how easy they are - This is a very well thought out app, easy to use and navigate and well worth the low price. The BeautyCraft App is available for $1.99 from the App Store on iPhone and iPod touch or at www.itunes.com/appstore. Visit www.herbhedgerow.co.uk/app.html for more information.
Thanks to Chiiki, I have received some wonderful organic perfumes to try by Aura-soma. The fragrance range is called Pegasus.
The range consists of eight different fragrances in numbered bottles in an assortment of stunning colours, presented in beautiful unique vintage style bottles. The bottle numbers are- No 11 "Pink Lotus" No 30 "Oudh Incense" No 39 "Liquid Elixir" No 44 "Iris Florentina" No 56 "Violet Powder" No 58 "Aquatic Flowers" No 75 "Frangipani" No 80 "Datura" The fragrances are created using the purest of essential oils, so you can be assured that you are wearing a fragrance completely natural and free from chemicals. Aura-soma states that you are encouraged to choose the one that suits you personally. You choose the perfume based on the colour of the bottle rather than the smell and through your colour choice you’re naturally drawn to the scent that likely suits you best. Although I did it the other way around and chose the fragrance first, the fragrance still matched up with the colours I would have chosen. I was really impressed with these perfumes, they don't smell cheap and the scent lasts for a very long time, something which can be difficult to find in organic perfumes. Eco-friendly, cruelty free and against animal testing. Whether you like soft florals or earthy scents, I think you are bound to find a perfume in this range which you will be attracted to. When I changed to organic skin care, perfumes were what I missed the most, I have tried some natural perfumes whose scent lingered for around one hour at the most, but pegasus are quite the opposite. I've decided to review - No 30 "Oudh Incense" As a patchouli and incense lover, I was drawn to this scent. An exquisite blend of Woody and Oriental oils and herbal extracts. The patchouli isn't the strong 60's style of patchouli (although I love that type of patchouli too) . This is a gentle, soft patchouli layered underneath Amber, Musk (vegan friendly), Vanilla and Jasmine. These were the scents which stood out as I first applied it. As the day wore on and it settled onto my skin, the scents of cedarwood and vetiver started coming through. This perfume is connected with spirituality and peace of mind. It gave me a very relaxed feeling, similar to when you burn incense. It's warm and sensual and I found it lasted a very long time on my skin. Knowing that this is all natural and free of synthetics makes this even better. The dark red and blue glass perfume bottle is my favourite bottle out of the pegasus range, a thoughtful and deep colour which I think resonates well with the oudh incense perfume. Intro to Pegasus perfumes/ Samantha Sample and GUEST BLOG /Annette Christy/Chikii Words from Samantha Sample founder of Be Genki “Many years ago when starting my deep dive in to the world of natural skincare, personal care and all-things-organic, the first thing I threw out from my bathroom cabinet was the bottle of perfume, vowing never to use conventional fragrances ever again. Reason being, I was horrified by the effect that synthetic fragrances and fixatives had on my health, and wondered how on earth it was possible for companies to legally sell such poison and why it wasn’t common knowledge. The Environmental Working Group’s SKIN DEEP Cosmetic Safety Database is recognized as a world authority on ingredient listings and state that many synthetic fragrances pose a wide range of immediate and long-term health hazards, with links to: ~ immunotoxicity, or harm to the immune system, a class of health problems that manifest as allergic reactions or an impaired capacity to fight disease and repair damaged tissues in the body ~ neurotoxicity, or harm to the brain and nervous system, a class of health problems that can range from subtle developmental delays to chronic nerve degeneration diseases. Doesn’t sound like much fun does it?! So, I am now jumping with joy to be able to use and make available to you the new Pegasus Parfum range, made with love and intention by Aura-Soma®, and created using only natural and organic essential oils extracted from plants and flowers. The alcohol, which is used as the fragrance carrier, is certified organic by the Soil Association and fermented from pure organic grain. By using organic grade materials you can be sure that the ingredients are not exposed to pollution or pesticides. Hooray!!! Perfume guaranteed free from petrochemicals, synthetic fragrances and preservatives!!! and just in time for the party season!!! “ Guest post Annette Christy at chikii.com.au At Chikii, we are very aware of what the dangers of Synthetic Fragrances and Phthalates are to our health and our babies, and we only look for pure therapeutic and certified organic essential oils in our perfumes and body products. We know that the sweet, smelling air fresheners, reed diffusers, body sprays, scented shampoos are made with synthetic fragrances and yes they are bad for you…. especially children and pregnant women. These contain phthalates which are chemicals known to cause hormonal abnormalities, birth defects and reproductive problems. There is a lot of evidence also that artificially scented products may also trigger migraine headaches, allergies and asthma attacks. When synthetic fragrances are burned, they produce toxic fluoro-carbons and other polluting by-products. . Fragrances that are synthetically-derived are, for the most part, derived from petroleum sources. The chief motive for using synthetic fragrances is the price, which means bigger profits! According to the EWG, there are potentially hundreds of chemicals in a single product’s secret fragrance mixture. Anyway, we are not going to bore you with endless information on the list of dangers, instead we are going to list a few points on how to protect yourself from these nasties and provide useful information to help you evaluate products in order for you to choose safe alternatives. 1. Avoid air fresheners. They are made with synthetic fragrances, containing phthalates. 2. Watch for any product that lists “fragrance” or “parfum” on the label. 3. Products that claim to be “fragrance free” or “unscented” could contain masking agents that give off a neutral odour, so it is best if the word “fragrance” does not appear on the label at all. 4. Look for scents that are naturally derived or are plant-based or labelled as 100% pure or therapeutic essential oils. These are not the same thing as fragrance oils which are artificially created and contain synthetic chemicals. 5. If a product says “Made with…” it can mean as little as 1 percent of the ingredients in the bottle. 6. For scented candles, try those made from soy, coconut, olive or beeswax, and make sure their fragrance is made from 100% therapeutic essential oils. 7. To clear the air use a non-aerosol citrus spray containing only citrus peel extracts, which are effective at dissolving airborne odours, instead of scented aerosol sprays, liquids that emit a continuous scent, or solid air fresheners. 8. Labels that claim a product is “natural” or “biodegradable” do not mean that it is necessarily free of synthetic fragrances or other chemicals 9. Certified Organic products do not contain synthetic fragrances. It just makes sense to educate yourself and the people you care about….who wants to be breathing in synthetic chemicals and petroleum….YUCK! Kosmea's natural Australian skincare range positions itself around Organic Rose-hip oil and plant and flower extracts. All completely natural, organic and not tested on animals. Kosmea Radiance 24/7 Youth Boost If you want a simple, pure, affordable anti-aging remedy, this would be a great choice. Containing seabuckthorn oil, rose hip oil, pomegranate oil and camellia oil. All of the oils are certified organic. Four of the best anti-aging oils combined into one. Sea Buckthorn oil is a natural anti-oxidant, containing anti-aging and anti-inflammatory properties (good for acne). Previously I had used a pure sea buckthorn oil on my face, but this combination is so much better. Sea Buckthorm oil on it's own is a bright orange colour, but when it's mixed with the other oils, it's a lot milder and better for applying to the face. Rose-hip oil is well known now for being one of the best wrinke fighters around. Pomegranate protects against free radical damage caused by the sun and promotes cell regeneration. Camellia gives the skin a radiant glow by rejuvenating and restoring. This oil lasts for a long time, as all you need to use is 2-3 drops morning and night. It has a nice, soft scent. Also good to use on the décolletage area. Very good for crows feet and tiny lines around the lips. Kosmea products can be purchased via their website. |
